Under the bright, fluorescent lights of the gym, the volleyball team practices with endless determination, each spike and serve hit with full participation, every minute spent getting ready for their next game. Every player is valuable, and every player works hard, as they all strive towards one goal: to win.
The junior varsity team has been practicing and playing hard. Emma Ball, sophomore on JV, loves to play volleyball. She started playing in fifth grade with her friend, who she still plays with now.
“I like playing up front, at the net,” Ball said. “I enjoy playing with my teammates. I like the friendships and how we all work together so well. I was on JV last year, too.”
Ball has many goals for the future, but the biggest ones are to get into varsity and make it to nationals.
“I have always had college ball in the back of my mind but recently I’m not sure if that’s something I want to do,” Ball said. “I still will do volleyball all throughout high school, and my goal is to make varsity and nationals.”
Sophomore Morgan King is fixated on volleyball. King has been playing volleyball since kindergarten and loves it because it’s always fun and fast paced.
“Volleyball is something I really enjoy,” King said. “It’s fast paced and fun, and you get to make really good friends and connections to teammates.”
Sophomore Lexi Cooper volleyball because it’s competitive. She has been playing for four years for school, and three years for club. Her favorite part of being on the team is she gets to make friendships with her teammates.
“I like to play volleyball because it’s competitive and gets my mind off things,” Cooper said. “This year is my first year on varsity. I love to play and create the best bonds with my teammates!”
Varsity volleyball has gone to a few tournaments so far. They placed first in Gold for their first tournament and fifth Aug. 24. They go to different schools around Texas for the tournaments.
“Volleyball is my favorite thing,” Cooper said. “When I play, everything is better. I can’t wait to continue playing and doing my best, always.”
