Just imagine playing a sport since the age of 5, the one certain thing there for the long run. Then the day comes as a senior, signing a paper in front of family and friends committing to one school. Senior Aryn Smith understands this feeling.

Smith has played softball since she was 5 years old. She signed to the University of Ottawa in Kansas Nov. 7.

“I’m very excited and relieved. It’s something she’s dreamed of and we are very proud of her,” Aryn’s mother, Valarie Smith, said.

Smith started playing for her high school’s varsity softball team her freshman year.

“She’s an incredible player and teammate, and she’s a silent leader. She doesn’t know the impact she has on the team,” varsity softball coach Sharyn Vernon said.
