Students surprised in classes with letter jackets
Tennis Coach Elizabeth Simmons walked into the classroom, looking for senior Marissa Padilla. The first thought on Padilla’s mind was that she was in trouble, little did she know that she would be receiving a letterman jacket.
“You’re in trouble and I’m going to say it in front of all these people,” Simmons joked. “Not really, I’m happy to congratulate you on earning your letterman jacket.”
Padilla was surprised; it showed on her face as she stood and walked to her coach.
“I was excited and I’ve been waiting a long time for this award,” Padilla said.
Later in that same period, Simmons visited David Shipp’s physics class asking for junior Robby Burks.
“I got up and threw my jacket off because I wanted the picture to look nice. I was pretty nervous but it ended quickly with someone snapping the picture and Coach Simmons saying congratulations,” Burks said.
Simmons said that each player works hard to succeed and earn these jackets.
“The only requirement [to letter] is that they play every fall dual,” Simmons said.
Five tennis players lettered this year:
Robert Burks
Maria (Flor) Sardo
Jasmin Goble
Seth Sehon
Marissa Padilla
