Varsity football wins first game of season  against

Touch down, touch down, go Braden. After Garrett McCain graduated, junior Braden Shewmake takes the position of the new varsity football quarterback.

“It was a new thing for me,” Shewmake said. “You are in control of the offense and having all the play makers around me makes my job a whole lot easier.”

The team played the Red Oak Red Hawks Friday, Aug. 29, at Billy Goodloe Stadium.

“The first game was a blast,” Shewmake said. “It was a whole new team with a whole new attitude.”

The boys led 21-14 in the first half.

“The first half was slow, but the second half was good,” Inside Linebacker Jacob Zaborsky said.

The team came out victorious with a final score of 49-28.

“I knew we were going to be tough,” Shewmake said. “I had a good feeling about the game.”

The coaches like to keep the game fast-paced.

“The defensive line played amazing,” Coach Bryan Gilbert said. “We try to put our players in the best position possible to make the right play for the team.”

The team plays Mesquite Poteet Friday, Sept. 5, at Wylie Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

“I’m looking forward to playing Poteet,” Shewmake said. “It will be a good test for us.”
