People have seen him in the hallways, maybe even on the basketball courts. How could you miss him? Most people look up to him, literally. He’s the tallest guy you will ever meet. You might have already guessed. He is senior Pete Okonkwo.
Okonkwo plays on the varsity basketball team and has a big advantage to why he’s so fast. Okonkwo is 6’5”. Obviously he’s really tall, but he feels more like he’s been blessed with his height.
“My mom is 5’4” and my father is 5’7” so I don’t think I got my height from them but from God,” Okonkwo said.
Okonkwo has been on the basketball team since freshman year and is known for making big shots from the three point line.
“My height is a huge deal for me in basketball,” Okonkwo said.
Most people wish they weren’t so tall but Okonkwo enjoys being tall. He’s even taller than his basketball coach, Emmanuel Roland, who is 6’0”.
“Being tall has its perks,” Okonkwo said, “like playing basketball and seeing over big crowds.”
Okonkwo thinks his height will help him with his basketball career after high school.
“I hope I continue to grow because being tall you can see more than what others do,” Okonkwo said.
