I don’t listen to pop as often as I do other music, but this new rising star Alessia Cara has made me more interested in this genre.

Alessia Cara is a 19-year-old girl hailing from Brampton, Canada, who has released one full album so far and each song has its own meaning and is meant to give people an insight on the life she lives.

Her most popular song ‘Here’ is meant to be both cheeky and cautionary with cleverly written lyrics to make the listener think it’s just a party song, but really it’s about that one person at the party who is uncomfortable and doesn’t want to be there. Another one of her songs ‘Seventeen’ has more of a quicker and upbeat sound and is meant to be a song you can dance to, while just talking about growing up. ‘Outlaws’ sounds amazing as well and is about getting away with a partner in crime, but the music creates an old school sound that makes you think differently about its meaning. ‘Four Pink Walls’ has a more classic hip-hop sound and is talking about cautiously treading fame and celebrating success.

Alessia Cara is an incredible artist, and the fact that each song is taken directly from her life and that she’s not afraid to share it with the world is what interests me in her music.
