Abbott’s decision is premature

It’s not time \\ It’s understandable wanting to change a few rules so businesses can continue making profit, since tons of people have lost their jobs due to business closures, but allowing people to no longer wear masks in public places will only worsen the current situation.

People have already heard how the Mask Mandate will be lifted by Governor Greg Abbott, effective March 10 2021, and how businesses will be allowed to reopen 100%. This leads to hope that the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus must be decreasing for something this important to be taking place; well, keep on hoping because today’s not the day.

If anyone thought the estimate of 534,000 deaths in the U.S., 46,500 in Texas alone, was a lot, imagine how the termination of the mask mandate will influence the death count. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has already confirmed the death count to be accurate, and confirmed the wearing of masks limits exposure to COVID-19 particles. This preposterous decision will only cause the death count to sky rocket in the U.S., but as long as the business economy is doing fine it doesn’t really matter, right?

As www.cdc.gov mentions, Texas is already the second state in the U.S. with the most cases, coming in third for most deaths. As NBC News has reported, many of Texas’ top doctors say this lift restriction could result in a new surge of COVID-19 infections and deaths. DFW doctors also alert people to continue wearing masks, despite the risk of business failure. But who should everyone believe? Certified doctors who went through seven years to earn their degree, or a money hungry politician?

It’s understandable wanting to change a few rules so businesses can continue making profit, since tons of people have lost their jobs due to business closures, but allowing people to no longer wear masks in public places will only worsen the current situation. Once restrictions are lifted and businesses can fully open, profits will seem to look better for about a week, until the next wave of COVID-19 hits and another lockdown will take effect.

Governor Abbott’s reasoning for this premature decision is because he believes the vaccine will control any further COVID-19 outbreaks or a lockdown, but when the mask restrictions are lifted, CDC confirmed Texas will only be expected to receive about 8% of the vaccine. The logical solution would be to wait until each state receives at least 50% of the vaccine before opening businesses up 100%.

The fact that Governor Abbott did not consult with healthcare professionals, which they confirmed March 4, 2021, before making his decision, just further proves that the lift of the mandate is solely for the benefit of the economy and completely disregards the needs of all American citizens. But anyways, at least these empty-headed anti-maskers will finally stop complaining.
