High school hallways are fast lanes

Students walk too slowly
The high school hallway is just like the movies, as if everyone was subconsciously in a play and their role was dutifully chosen by fate. The sappy couples, the gossip girls, the jocks and the work-a-holics. All these people, whether they stand in the hall talking the time away, or speaking to a teacher for extra credit, will eventually hustle to class.
Enter the Slow Walker. Those people who think they are too cool for school and don’t care if they are late to class. Now there would not be a problem if those people would walk on the outskirts of the huge herd of students who are running to class to beat the bell, but no, they walk in the middle of the hall and serve as an obstacle for those who care. Truly annoying.
Of course, slow walkers don’t just irritate others, they make other students tardy. Tardiness might not seem like a big deal to most people but to those who are in athletics, band or any club or organization in school, it does. Consequences range from, “Don’t be late again or else,” to not participating in the next game, meet or the next club meeting.
Now, given that other students could just walk around the slow walker, that is not always a viable option. Slow walkers do not always walk alone. They get their other slow walking buddies and assemble a line across the entire hallway not letting others through. Yes, someone could probably say what most people have on the tip of their tongue: “Excuse me, get out of my way or walk faster.” Or they could just push them out of the way. But having manners, nobody ever seems to say anything and waits for the next opportunity to pass these careless people.
Slow walkers are not so easily persuaded to walk faster. Some might walk even slower when anybody tries to ask for them to speed up. A plausible solution to this problem could be to throw all manners out the window and push the little suckers out of the way, or make a sign that says not a two mile per hour hallway and put it on the wall or making a small section of the hall theirs with stickers on the floor spelling out slow walkers. Maybe making the passing periods just a minute longer, or to have coaches out in the hall yelling at students to hustle and if not then they will take it outside. The most reasonable solution is to recall the frustration of having a slow walker in front of you and walk quickly yourself.
