Diversity club plans for February
February 15, 2021
The Diversity Club is an open environment for anyone regardless of gender, sexuality, religion or ethnicity.
The club is seeking to spread its message by holding events throughout this year. Even amidst the chaos of the pandemic, the club is still determined to spread its message.
“We pride ourselves on being an open space anyone can look towards for community service and encourage activism in those who wish to use their voice for what they believe is right,” President Jocelyn Blouke said.
The Diversity Club is holding informative meetings and progressive events to help spread change in the district.
During February, the club will host events to celebrate Black History Month, including a round-table discussion with teachers and students for asking uncomfortable questions.
“I think we have successfully started the uncomfortable conversation, and we are advocating for the injustices in our school and district,” member Madison Shavers said.
The club will also host a viewing of the documentary “13th” which is about slavery and systemic racism Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. in the auditorium.
The club strives to make an impact on students’ awareness and education towards minorities.
“We pride ourselves on being an open space anyone can look towards for community service and encourage activism in those who wish to use their voice for what they believe is right,” Blouke said.
