AP psych students take on Terrell State Hospital
March 5, 2017
Advanced Placement Psychology Teacher Mrs. Kristen Richey’s AP students went to Terrell State Hospital March 1 and 3. The students toured the grounds at the hospital.
“It was very interesting to see everything. To see where so many people get help,” junior LJ Prock said. “This experience definitely pushes me in the direction of psychology in the future.”
The AP students also interviewed with a past patients, and learned what struggles they went through to be who they are today.
“We have been doing these tours for years. Every year is a new adventure,” Richey said.
That morning and afternoon, the students explored the facility. They walked around old, abandoned buildings (even got to look in a few), see where they practice peer-to-peer counseling and the morgue. They even visited one of the rooms where they still do electric shock therapy where patients have to be 18 and older and be in the right state of mind after many trials with medication).
“Next thing for this class is definitely getting ready for the AP test,” Mrs. Richey said.
