The types of people that pass through the halls are deeply varied. Keezie Stockman, a redhead with a spattering of freckles across her nose, Eli Seven Crows, a Native American man with a dangerous past, and Peter Hurech, an aspiring young business entrepreneur. The world is normal…  or so they think. When Keezie and Eli meet under the strangest of circumstances, they unite and go on a marvelous adventure, spanning three separate books.

Christopher Nooner, father of Mayat Nooner who graduated with the class of 2015, recently published his book Shadow Souls, and had a release party Saturday Aug. 27 at the Wylie Recreation Center. Beforehand, he gave away a box full of “advanced reader” copies. The release was a huge success, tying in refreshments from the book as well as old Native American artifacts

“It has taken me one year to complete. Four months were spent writing it, and the rest of the time was spent in the revising and editing, as well as the publishing process,” Nooner said, “I have the whole series mapped out in my head and I am actually about ¼ done with the second book.”

Shadow Souls is a young adult fantasy book that is set in the 80s, and follows the adventure of Keezie and Eli as they try to save the world from total destruction.

“I really think that young adults will enjoy this book because it’s a throwback book, set in the 80s, and an Urban Fantasy. It’ll have a lot of things in it that the kids of today might not even have heard of,” Nooner said. “My publisher said it’s like going for a ride in a kayak down a river with whitewater rapids, and then getting spit out the other side.”

Chris grew up in rural Arkansas as the fourth of seven kids. When he was 12, he decided to start writing and never gave up on that dream.

“Having a book out is so amazing. I’ve been waiting a while for this, so it really is surreal,” Chris said.

The book goes on sale Monday, Aug. 29, and Nooner has already given away a box full of advanced reader copies. The book is sold on Amazon for $11.99 in paperback and $2.99 for the Kindle edition.
