Yearbook receives highest ranking: Distinguished Merit
February 22, 2016
The Dynasty achieves the Distinguished Merit award for the fifth time for its eighth volume of the yearbook. Distinguished Merit is the highest ranking a yearbook can receive. The Editor in Chief of this yearbook was 2015 graduate Madison Jennings who was on staff for four years.
The book was sent out last December to be critiqued by another yearbook adviser and was judged on multiple aspects such as design, coverage, stories and content.
“Throughout the book, the use of black and white photos makes the color pop out, effectively reinforces your theme,” the judge said.
The commenter noted something on every page of the yearbook from cover to cover evaluating about the overall design.
“Beautiful cover – textures and colors,” the judge said.
There were also critiques on designs like the index and the stories that the yearbook staff will use to improve this year’s volume IX issue which is currently in production.
“Consider breaking up your index with more photos or group photos,” the judge said.
For this book, the yearbook staff entered in a state wide contest called UIL Interscholastic League Press Conference submitting their own works such as pictures, stories and design. The staff is hoping to win individual achievement awards in April. The ninth volume of The Dynasty will be distributed in May.
“I think this year’s yearbook is going to be the best one yet,” senior Editor in Chief Haleigh King said. “The yearbook staff worked really hard to make it the best and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as we do.”
