Next big thing makes itself known everywhere; gets students involved, pumps up school spirit

A few students from the Classes of 2016 and 2017 came together and formed the “Raider Revolution”.

“The Raider Revolution is a group devoted to spreading school spirit in and outside of the halls of Wylie East,” said Michael Turner, a junior leader and founder of the Raider Revolution.

The Raider Revolution is a spirit group made up of students who travels to sports events to support the Raiders in their efforts to win.

“We wanted to become more involved in the sports at Wylie East and to be more supportive to the teams,” said Gretchen Burnworth, a senior leader for the Raider Revolution.

The Raider Revolution has a Twitter page (@eastspiritclub) ran by Turner, Burnworth, senior Jordyn Perry and senior Lindsey Skinner. Tweets are updates on games, when and where to buy spirit wear, what can/can’t be brought to games, etc.

“We created the page because Twitter is very popular and we figured it was a good way to keep everyone in the loop,” Burnworth said, “We post information about upcoming games and suggest what people should do and bring.”

The group plans on attending every football game and showing off their school spirit. Showing off this spirit includes “painting up”, bringing air horns to get loud and waving personalized spirit flags.

Turner is in charge of all flags within the group. Over the summer, he ordered multiple flags with East emblems on them and even a flag with a picture of the principle, Mr. Mike Williams.

The Raider Revolution also sells different T-Shirts such as “Straight Outta Wylie East”, “Raider Rebels”, “This is ‘R’ state” and etc. For more information about how to order or buy one of these shirts, visit The Raider Revolution Twitter page or talk to one of the leaders of the group.

“We haven’t met our goal yet, we could do better; our ultimate goal is to keep the spirit alive at Wylie East and pass it on,” Burnworth said. “We plan on really bringing it on at Crosstown Showdown Oct. 2.”
