Spanish Honor Society welcomes new inductees and presents senior cords

Lining up on stage, the 37 inductees patiently wait for their moment in the spotlight to be inducted into la Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica.

Joined by family and friends in the audience, the seniors of the Spanish Honor Society prepare to receive their gold and red graduation cords of achievement.

Altogether the Spanish Honor Society highlights long-lived memories and invites fresh opportunities to prosper in the years to come.

“It feels so amazing to actually use a foreign language,” sophomore Olivia Gabriel said.

Gabriel, a German exchange student, started the ceremony with her first thoughts of America and her first experiences that were seeded in the state of Texas. Being fluent in Spanish, she managed to introduce a different perspective on the Spanish language.

“This is an honorable opportunity to expand my knowledge in the Spanish culture and to experience a new world,” sophomore inductee Priya Varghese said.

After the officers completed their introductions, the Mother Candle was lit. The new inductees lit their own candles from the Mother’s flame, starting their very own legacy.

“This ceremony, celebrating our membership into the SHS, symbolizes that we are all one in that club,” sophomore Lauren Garcia said

In a single-file fashion, the seniors also obtained their woven graduation honor cords.

As the Spanish Honor Society finished their ceremony they cried out their societal motto in unison, “¡Todos a una! Together as one!”

“I’m grateful that this society continues to grow,” advisor Katharine Isbell said.

A reception in the media center followed.
