The Sapphires performed their Spring Show, “Musical Mayhem”, May 2-3 in the auditorium. They danced to songs from musicals, including Disney’s Frozen and Grease.
The Sapphire Studs also had a big part in the Spring Show. Seniors Dustin Sanders, Jake Walker, Brandon Wiltcher and Nije’e Cooper were the hosts for both nights. The Studs also had a special dance towards the end of the show.
“I liked hosting the Spring Show because it’s a chance to entertain people, as well as get to show all the work the Sapphires have put in this year,” Sanders said.
The “Guy’s dance” took place towards the end of the first act. This dance included the Sapphires’ friends, boyfriends, or brothers. The Sapphires danced with their partner to “I’ll Make a Man out of You”, from the Disney musical Mulan.
“The guy’s dance actually wasn’t very hard to make, because we all like to embarrass ourselves and wanted to make people laugh,” Sanders said.
Some of the Sapphires’ parents performed in the Spring Show as well. There were dances that included the moms and dads.
“It was so much fun to get to spend time with my dad and watch him do what I do,” sophomore Catie Shirley said.
For the second act, the Sapphires opened with “Pop Danthology”, which is a mash up of all of the dances that they have performed this year.
“Danthology was my favorite because it was a mix of all our dances so it was cool to get to do a little bit of them again,” Shirley said.
Sapphire Captain Ashlenn Wellbrock had a solo that she choreographed herself. All of the officers danced to “Oompa Loompa Mix” from Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
“My favorite part of the Spring Show was performing in front of everyone because I like to entertain people,” Shirley said.
The Sapphires had a full crowd both nights. The audience members were entertained throughout the entire night.
The seniors in Sapphires performed for the last time May 3.
“The hardest part was leaving all the seniors because we have made so many memories with them,” Shirley said. “The Sapphires have grown so close over the years.”
