You’re walking into a fiery hall, you suddenly get cold with fear, the sounds are tragic and your heart is sinking. Is this what hell feels like?
Students in Humanities II have just finished reading the book Dante’s Inferno: The Devine Comedy and are now beginning to recreate the book’s nine circles of hell in the 200 English hallway.
“We started to brainstorm our hallway on Monday and we plan on making it better than last year!” sophomore Madison Jennings said.
The two separate Humanities II classes are in a friendly competition against each other. Each class voted a project manager to guide the hall and organize the hell about to break loose.
“Ivy La’ Porte is our project manager, and Bekah Porter is fifth period’s, I think we’ll have the bigger lead,” Jennings said.
The hallway will have all nine circles and all the terrors within, also including mythological and biblical allusions, historical allusions and many other pieces. Then the students will merge all parts into one final piece using materials ranging from paper and scissors to wood and metal.
“I’m not looking forward to re-reading the book to find quotes; I’d rather just get started on the fun part, making hell,” Jennings said.
The final product will be completed by Nov. 15, at 5:30 p.m. Both halls will be decorated and detailed.
“I’m excited to see the final product; this is much more enjoyable than just taking a boring test!” Jennings said.
