Student Council has been hard at work for the past two weeks planning homecoming festivities, but that’s not all they’re responsible for.
STUCO as an organization itself has changed this year. Participants can now receive points that go toward cords and scholarships.
“The point system is used to reward students for their hard work in STUCO,” STUCO President Kaleena Pickett said. “For every event that members attend, dress up for spirit day, attend meetings etc., a certain point value will be given.”
The nominations and voting for homecoming court also changed this year.
“Instead of the traditional nominating and then voting for the nominees, the students will nominate who they want to win, and the winner will be the recipient of the most nominations,” Pickett said.
STUCO runs everything from homecoming, to the talent show, to Red Ribbon week. If any students would like to get involved in the new and improved STUCO, meetings take place the second and fourth Wednesday of every month in Mrs. Arp’s room, room 154.
“Advantages include getting involved with Raider pride, community service and having a voice in school-wide decisions,” Senior Class President Caitlin Gipson said. “In addition,n it is a great leadership opportunity recognized by colleges and universities.”
The organization gives the student body a voice and the power to change how things are run in the school. STUCO is always looking for new members and anyone can sign up until Oct. 30. To sign up, fill out a STUCO form located across from the library, or in Mrs. Arp’s room.
“There are limitless opportunities,” Arp said.
