Choice High School is offering alternative graduation choices for students with 15 or more credits in the WISD school district.

The Choice Accelerated Graduation Program is designed for students who are at risk of dropping out of high school. This program is only available to students in the 11^th and 12^th grade. There are very many differences between traditional high school and Choice which is located at the Achieve Academy. Students go there for a variety of reasons, some because they want to accelerate in 1ife and go onto college, and some because the traditional school setting is just not a fit.

“Choice is set at a faster pace. There are very little distractions and regular school to me seemed like a joke,” senior Jake Shockley said.

The only people who can go to Choice are students who have passed their exit level TAKS test and have 15 or more credits. People with serious discipline issues are not accepted in to the Choice Academy because the people over there are trying to help those that struggle to graduate and get them on the right career path.

“We have students who have had parents transfer to a different state and the student wants to get their diploma from Wylie,” Principal Lynne Tinsley said.  “Some students simply enjoy the format of receiving instructions online and focus learning through technology,”

The Choice Academy actually has a graduation contrary to what many people believe. They have an annual graduation for students who have graduated throughout the year. It is not as big as Wylie High’s and Wylie East’s graduation, but is a sizeable amount in comparison.

“Last year we had close to 1,000 family and friends celebrate at our graduation ceremony,” Tinsley said.
