Sarah Randall:Class of 2015

Graduated in 2015, Sarah Randall, now Sarah Barnes is a Meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. She is also in the process of obtaining a Masters of Engineering in Geomatics and GIS from the University of Colorado Denver.

What five words describe you in high school?

Outgoing, Laidback, Adventurous, Creative, Ambitious

What activities were you involved in high school? What was your favorite and why?

Primarily Student Council and National Honor Society. I really enjoyed the NHS, particularly for the Habitat For Humanity service day.

What do you wish you would have done differently in high school?

I wish I would have realized sooner that what you do in high school really does matter for your future.

What was your favorite subject? And why?

Physics, because Mr. Shipp always made it fun. But also, math. I love solving math problems.

What was your least favorite subject and why?

English, because writing has never been a strength of mine.  

What is your favorite high school memory?

Going on a school trip to Italy during spring break with Ms. Taylor.

What did you do after high school? College? Major?

I attended Texas A&M University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. Additionally, I am in the process of obtaining a Masters of Engineering in Geomatics and GIS from the University of Colorado Denver.

Do you have any advice for current high school students?

Make plans for the future while taking time to enjoy the moment.

What are you doing now and what will you be doing 10 years from now?

Currently, I am a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Texas. I absolutely love my career, so 10 years from now, I anticipate I will still be working for the National Weather Service!

What reaction would your high school self have if you could tell him/her what you are up to now? 

I would be pretty impressed. From a young age, I always knew I wanted to become a meteorologist, but I had no idea how to make this dream a reality. After a lot of hard work and dedication, my “high school self’s” dreams came true.

Your newest hobby: Baking and traveling the world.

Movies or Video Games: Twister will always be my favorite movie, but I also love any rom-com out there.
