Haley Smalley Anderson: Class of 2017

Graduated in 2017, Haley Smalley Anderson is now about to graduate from Brigham Young University to become a physician’s assistant. She is also planning to live in Oregon with her growing family.

What year did you graduate from WEHS?

2017.

What five words describe you in high school?

Determined, tired, happy, studious, involved.

What activities were you involved in high school?

Culinary, Student Council, Spanish Honor Society, and National Honor Society.

What do you wish you would have done differently in high school?

Get more involved earlier on, and research more about my future goals and plans.

What was your favorite subject? And why?

Calculus with Mrs. Bray because it was a challenge, but she went out of her way to make it fun.

What was your least favorite subject and why?

History, probably geography. It was boring and pretty irrelevant.

What is your favorite high school memory?

Cooking with Chef Pound in culinary every day; he will be missed, he was amazing.

What did you do after high school? College? Major?

I went on to Brigham Young University (BYU) as a Human Development major with plans to go on to become a Physician’s Assistant. I also took a year and a half off of school to go on a Church of the Latter Day Saints Spanish-speaking mission to Oregon.

Do you have any advice for current high school students?

Get involved and plan for your future. Think about what you can do now in order to reach your future goals.

What are you doing now and what will you be doing 10 years from now?

I am currently still attending BYU, about to graduate. I also have been married for a year and a half, and we have a four-month-old baby boy, Jonah. Ten years from now I will be a practicing Physician’s Assistant living in Oregon with my growing family.

What reaction would your high school self have if you could tell her what you are up to now? (surprised, impressed, etc.)

I would be definitely surprised that I am balancing so much, but impressed that I am so happy and able to do it all.
