Kenia Ascencio: Class of 2014

Graduated in 2014, Kenia Ascencio is currently studying to get her JD at the Texas Tech University School of Law. She is mainly focusing on Intellectual Property Law and science and law regulation. 

What five words describe you in high school?

Quiet, helpful, nice, academic, friendly

What activities were you involved in in high school?

I was in band (played the saxophone) and I was on the varsity tennis team for all four years

What do you wish you would have done differently in high school?

Taken more AP classes, college is expensive and AP classes can help save money, if you do well

What is your favorite high school memory?

I don’t have a specific time but my favorite memories were from being in band at the football games

Who was your favorite teacher in high school?

I cant narrow it down to just one but probably Mr. Lambert and Mr. Daniel (both the band directors at the time) and Coach Simmons

What did you do after high school?

I went to Texas Tech University where I got a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a Master of Science in Biotechnology. I’m also working as a graduate assistant at the Texas Tech Office of institutional Diversity.

Ever got in trouble in high school?

Nah, I was a good noodle

Advice for current high school students?

If you’re planning on going to college, try to learn solid study techniques early on, if you haven’t done so already. It will make the transition to the rigor of college classes a lot easier. 

If you could do something over again, what would it be and why?

I wish I would have taken a different language course than Spanish ( I already speak it haha)

What’s next for you?

Graduating law school in May 2022 and hopefully getting finding a job I love

What reaction would your high school self have if you could tell her what you are up to now?

I would be surprised that I’m still in school!

What were your favorite and least favorite subjects in high school?

I really enjoyed biology but I was not the biggest fan of my math classes
