The lights dim, the room is silent, suddenly the sound of drum sticks counting off echoes. The strum of a guitar plays and vocals of one front man call out.  It’s a rock show, but who is playing? The Black Keys? The Artic Monkeys? No, how about Caravan Fuzz, a local high school band.

The band consists of seniors Joshua Reed, Travis Hepler and James Wilson, junior Kasey Wilson and 2014 graduate Cade Winsted. These five boys play shows every other weekend, about twice a month, typically around the Dallas area but that is nothing compared to what is next for this band while they tour South Texas areas during the upcoming summer.

“We hope to accomplish the pursuit of making Caravan Fuzz BIG,” Wilson said.

The Fuzz previously opened up for the Kevin Gates, B.o.B show and met J-Si from the radio station Kiss FM afterwards.

We just have a lot of fun playing music but it means everything to me, it’s my life. I could be having a terrible day but after I get on stage it’s like all those bad emotions disappear.

They even competed in the big Dallas competition, Battle of the Bands where they advanced to the finals and ended up just falling short of first place.

“We brought so much energy and we performed excellently,” Hepler said.

The band relies a lot on each other on and off the stage, and feel more like a family feeding off each other’s energy and sharing their passion for music.

“Music means the world to me. I want to do this for the rest of my life,” Hepler said.

The band members, who already feel like they have grown since their very first show, continue to strive to make improvements on things such as equipment and sound quality. They work hard to get sponsors, play shows and are currently in the studio working on their E.P.

“We’re more musically skilled than before,” Kasey said.

The boys use music for more than just getting girls. They use it as a confidence booster and even more so they use it as an escape.

“We just have a lot of fun playing music but it means everything to me, it’s my life. I could be having a terrible day but after I get on stage it’s like all those bad emotions disappear,” Reed said.
