Juniors qualify for exam exemptions

Are you a junior? Do you have an A or B in your classes? You may be exempt from your semester exams.

If you have an A and have been absent only three times or a B with a maximum of two absences you may be exempt from your final exam. Absences marked medical and school related absences do not count against you. You cannnot have more than one day of ISS.

“It makes me incredibly happy,” exempt junior Mark Pollard said, “because I am not subjected to the torment of sitting in a classroom and using my brain power.”

English teacher Amy May taught at WHS and knows the exemption policies well.

“Exam exemptions at Wylie High were set up where it was based on both your attendance and class and the grade that you make in class,” May said. “If you miss too much class, you have to take the class. If your grades are too low, you have to take the test. The same thing is happening here at East. The big thing that I think is great that Wylie East is doing is that they are also offering the chance that if you pass your final exam, but your TAKS grade is higher than your passing exam grade, they’ll let you use your TAKS grade instead. I think that’s a really great motivator for students to do well on TAKS.”

Caitlyn Bogart, Co-Editor In Chief
Good day, evening, afternoon or whatever time of day it happens to be while you read this, I hope you’re having a great time. I am a senior and Editor in Chief. I look forward to making our team as strong and seamless as possible. I honestly have no idea how to write this. You would think I would be better considering I’ve done this for three years running, but I’m a news writer. I am much better at writing about others. Writing is a huge part of my life. I plan on majoring in Business Marketing and English with a creative writing minor because I also write fiction books, one of which will be published this year for my Texas Performance Study Program (TPSP) project, so watch out! I live inside my head a lot and enjoy long philosophical conversations. I kind of feel like I just wrote an ad for a dating site. Didn’t mean to, but it happened.
