Girl competes in car showBlue Print
Every year, hundreds of classic cars gather in Dallas at the AutoRama Annual Car Show. From Chevys to Fords, each one is given a placement in the show. Sophomore Kelsie Mathis was one of the few girls to enter her vehicle in the competition Feb. 16.
“My truck is a ’92 Chevy pickup,” said Mathis. “It’s an everyday driver, but a show truck. It’s Daytona blue with candy blue pin striping. It’s got custom interior and it’s lowered.”
Mathis won the Rising Star Award, which goes to those 21 and under. She also won a normal placing award for her truck.
“The best part of it all was seeing guys flip when they realize it’s a girl’s truck,” Mathis said. “It’s just all around fun, and you get to meet a lot of new people.”
AutoRama is held every year in different parts of the country for anyone to attend or enter their vehicle. Classic cars and new cars are shown and judged.
“I plan on going back to the show next year; we’ll do a lot of things different under the hood of my truck this time.”
