Do you enjoy sports, but don’t really have the skills to be on the field or on the court playing them? Then join sports medicine. This year, the sports medicine program had 16 students who had the opportunity to help with training for the first ever varsity team. Being a trainer is great because there is nothing better than getting the opportunity to stand on the field during varsity games.

Coach Bob Conlin will be implementing some changes to the program next year.

“The only real changes will involve implementing and enforcing the higher expectations that have been discussed throughout the 2010-2011 school years,” Conlin Said.

Students given the opportunity to participate in sports medicine must earn and keep their spot on the “team”.

“The sports medicine program would rather have a few dedicated and reliable students than 20-25 students that come and go as they please,” Conlin said.

 All interested students that have submitted an application will be given the opportunity to tryout and earn a spot on next year’s Sports Medicine Team.

“Those students that demonstrate a strong work ethic, positive attitude, willingness to learn, outstanding character, responsibility and reliability will have the best opportunity to participate. All students wishing to earn a spot will take part in ongoing evaluations,” Conlin said.

It is not too late to turn in an application to be on the sports medicine team, just go by the training room across from room 712 and get one.

“Tryouts for the upcoming school year will take place during spring football, May 2 through May 27 and will be ongoing throughout a student’s time in the program,” Conlin said. 

Just because a student was a trainer last year does not guarantee that they will be placed on varsity next year.

“Selections made for various teams will be based entirely on present performance. No student is guaranteed the opportunity to work with a varsity team based solely on the fact that they worked with them in the past,” Conlin said.
