Sweet strokes \\ Winning first place at the North Forney Golf Tournament at Firewheel are varsity girls golf players Erin Baum, Grace Brackenridge, Taylor Clay, Allie Dorsey and Merylynne Penequito.

The varsity girls golf team played in a golf tournament Oct. 15 at Firewheel Golf Course and took home a first place plaque as a team.

Members of the team are Merlynne Penequito, Taylor Clay, Grace Brackenridge, Erin Baum and Allie Dorsey. Every girl lowered her score from the last tournament and dropped their team score by 20 strokes.

“This was only my second tournament, but I felt like it was a lot easier now that I knew what I needed to look for, such as water hazards and sand traps. They’re obstacles that every golfer has to deal with,” freshman Allie Dorsey said.

Three of the girls received individual medals: Merlynne Penequito (fourth Place), Taylor Clay (sixth place) and Grace Brackenridge (eighth place). Erin Baum, who is a freshman, had her first birdie.

“Congrats to the girls! Hopefully we will drop 10 more strokes before the next tournament coming up on Nov. 10,” Golf Coach Melinda Black said.
