Student section is lively despite break in winning streak

The sight of rowdy teenagers covered in blue as they waved their flags and jumped up and down with their posters was noteworthy at the Crosstown Showdown varsity football game Oct. 3. Baby powder was passed around so that everyone could throw it in the air at kickoff.

Once the baby powder was thrown, there was a fog and all students and fans could see was a white mist.

“You’re all hyped and in the moment but at the same time you’re like ‘oh dear God’ and you cover your face,” junior Janae Gilligan said.

On the home side senior Cole Freda was one of many who lead the rowdiness for the student section. Freda provided horns, pre made posters, clappers and anything that could distract the other team.

“I get so into the football games because it makes everyone else want to stop being lame,” Freda said.

The game went into overtime and finished with Wylie High winning 42-35, causing the home side to feel blue.

“I loved how live the student section was; it was so cheerful,” senior Monica Cazares said.
