Ready, Set, go Teach

Ready, Set, Teach! is a new class offered this year to juniors and seniors- advised by Ms. Jessica Taylor- who want to be teachers, tutors, librarians, administrators/principals or even school counselors. This class is a program that teaches students the basics of teaching: lesson planning, evaluations, student interactions and a greater understanding of public schooling.

Ready, Set, Teach! is a wonderful program for anyone who wants to work with children, not just people who want to be teachers.

In the Ready, Set, Teach! program, students can teach Pre-K through sixth grade. What most students don’t know is that they can also be an assistant librarian, work with Special Education students, work with the ESL classes, or even be an assistant in an elective-type class. The program is personalized to each student’s career goals, so they get to choose the grade level they teach and the area of the school they work in. Students who want a career working with children at all could benefit greatly in this program because it teaches students how to interact with all different types of children.

Unfortunately, like with all classes, there is a level of responsibility required with a class such as this. Students have weekly minor and major grade assignments- just like other classes- and all or most assignments are turned in through email, which has its ups and downs when technology decides not to work. Ready, Set, Teach! is a very self-motivated class, so if students are known procrastinators, this class is probably not for them.

Students who have any interest in working with young, or older, children in their future should take this course.

Ready, Set, Teach! is a wonderful program to be a part of, so, students go see Ms. Taylor for an interview at the end of this school year and be a part of what makes a child’s life so grand.

Abbey’s my name and smiles are my game. I love to be around people and tell jokes. I will do anything for a smile! I mean that figuratively by the way.  I am new to newspaper this year, a class I sort of fell into. I love to write nonfiction and poems, but this is a bit of a new territory. I write stories, news briefs, and take a few pictures. I am actually pretty quiet when I am on a journalistic mission. I just kind of focus on getting the words out I guess.  No pun intended.  I am also working on becoming a teacher: it’s my number one passion next to writing. I hope I bring creative and insightful ideas to newspaper this year and hope to see you around!
