Recently, many jobs have begun to ask employers along with their job applications to give out their password and email to social networking sites, such as Facebook or Twitter.
The government should prohibit employers from demanding workers’ usernames and passwords because it is a huge invasion of privacy. If employers could simply look up a person on the internet and go to their profiles, then why is it necessary to request their passwords? That’s going a little too far.
Along with demands for social networking passwords that also means they are requiring personal email information as well. These demands violate employee privacy and many workers are becoming infuriated at the fact that they are being forced to give out their own personal passwords.
Going through someone’s account may be deemed necessary to insure that the possible employee is not a threat to the company, but many people feel as if it is as criminal as opening someone’s mail.
Companies should not be allowed to invade someone’s privacy that directly. Yes, they have some reasoning behind wanting to really get to know who they are hiring, but they should not be allowed to have access to it at any point in time without the employees consent.
