Not only is Jonathan O’Grady trying to capture kings and queens, he is also trying to get people to join Chess club.

O’Grady started a chess club which meets Mondays in room 137 at 12:37 p.m. He wants to help students build their chess skills.

“The purpose of chess club is to create a fun safe environment to learn and refine a student’s chess skills and learn to apply those skills to school life,’’ O’Grady said.

Club Sponsor Benjamin Edge is a biology teacher who plays chess as well.

“Chess is a wonderful place to be and is so fun. I love it,’’ Edge said.

O’Grady learned to play chess from his grandfather.

“I want to spread my grandfather’s teachings to everyone.’’

At the moment, there are no competitions, but there will be soon enough.

Students can join by going to club meetings on Mondays in room 137 at 12:37-1:37 p.m.
