Senior Shyann Holley attended the San Antonio Livestock Show the week of Feb. 8.

With over 2,400 pigs competing in the show, she placed first with her Duroc, Dot Dot, and first with her Yorkshire, Velvet, then turned around and won breed champion with her York.

“When I was awarded breed champion york at San Antonio, I was very happy and thought about how much that scholarship will help pay for college so I can achieve my career goal,” Holley said.

Each exhibitor winning a breed championship is also awarded a $10,000 scholarship.

“I would like to go to Blinn College for two years then transfer to Texas A&M University to pursue my dream of coming a veterinarian,” Holley said.

In March, Shyann will attend the Houston Livestock show with both of her pigs. When she is done with Houston, Velvet will go back to her breeder, Ben Bobell, in Illinois where she will be bred with hopes of producing top quality show pigs. Dot Dot will come back to the farm where Shyann and her dad will breed her with hopes of continuing her success as well.

“Shyann is having a phenomenal senior year,” FFA teacher Tracy Vernon said. “This past January she exhibited her Duroc and won champion duroc at the Fort Worth Livestock Show.”

Other successful exhibitors at San Antonio were:

Meredith Pampolina – 2nd place duroc and 9th place landrace

Dalton Brown –10th place york

Cedric Gooch –4th place berkshire

Abby Cox, Emma Cox, Brandon Lorance and Garrett Williams also participated
