AQR students test percentage of success with homemade games

The smell of popcorn filled the air.

The rolling of balls was eventful across the room.

The laughter of the students echoed throughout the library.

Students in Mrs. Winkle’s advanced quantitative reasoning class calculated the probability of success and failure with homemade carnival games Dec 15.

“We gathered data to see how many people would win,” senior Abby Fraser said.

Throwing ornaments into a trashcan, Fraser’s group challenged their peers to toss three balls into the trashcan.

“This game is hard. I’m done,” senior Aubrey White said after failing at Trashketball.

Seniors Daniel Zavala, Manuel Luna and Juan Granados recreated a game that they saw at Six Flags.

“It was easy, cheap, and guaranteed a 100,” Zavala said. “Only two out of six people got it.”

Players had four tries to roll a ball into the second hole of Trevor McDermon’s group’s game, Fire in the Hole.

“I used wood and built it in 30 minutes,” McDermon said. “I love to build things.”
