Canned food ‘Wars’ begin Nov. 2

A very short time ago, in a galaxy very, very close…

It is a period of loss. Collin County citizens living in their homes are losing their battle against the evil Galactic Empire of Hunger.

This year’s food drive, Star Wars: May the Food be With You, takes place Nov. 2-6. The school is encouraging students and staff to bring in the most needed items to donate to the Christian Care Center as part of the annual district food drive.

This year four different competitions are taking place: Juniors vs. Seniors (in which items will be collected in all English classes) and between the fourth, fifth and sixth period homeroom classes. The homeroom with the most items per person for each period will win a trip to CiCi’s pizza, courtesy of Principal Mike Williams. The winning graduating class in the Junior versus Senior competition will win a sweats day and the English teachers of the winning class will be treated to lunch.

To make the food drive more fun for the staff and students, as well as collect diverse food products, W.E. have created theme days. Students and staff are encouraged to bring in the specified foods for that day, but no extra points are awarded.  Some may elect to bring everything in on one day; others may elect to bring in some throughout the week.  The themed days are as follows:

Millenium Fal-CAN Monday: Bring in canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned tomatoes and sauces, and meats (chili, spaghetti sauce, tuna, canned chicken)

R2D2sday: Help keep R2D2 clean and shiny by bringing in toiletries! (toilet paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, soap, diapers, etc.)

Wookie Cookie Wednesday: Bring in cake, brownie, and muffin mixes to satisfy Chewbacca’s sweet tooth! You can also bring in fruit juices, Jell-O, and pudding mix.

C3PO Thursday: “C” if you can bring in 3 Packaged meals! (Hamburger Helper)

Use the Force Friday: Bring in dried pastas, cereals, peanut butter/jelly–NO RAMEN will be collected!  Please do not count ramen toward your daily totals.

***Most needed items***  Jelly, canned meats, chili, canned vegetables and fruit, juices, tomato products, peanut butter, powdered/dried milk, packaged meals (Hamburger Helper), mixes (cake, cookie, Jell-O, pudding, bread and brownie), dried pastas, noodles, dry cereals (hot and cold), toiletry items and cooking oil (small bottles).

Wylie East won the district competition last year for donating the most items–USE THE FORCE to uphold the winning tradition!
