District cross country runners competed Oct. 23, and the results are in. Senior Edwin Walker wins champion out of all district runners.

“The last meet was great; 56 runners, high competition, and a lot of effort put in,” Walker said.

However, champion titles do not come over night.

“I run every day from 7 to 8:15 a.m. and on Sundays, I run 10 miles,” Walker said. “I literally run every day.”

Walker has been a runner for five years.

“I run because I enjoy it, and I’m good at it,” Walker said. “Aside from cross country I also run track.”

Walker may be a dedicated runner, but the title still takes him by surprise.

“It was another goal I accomplished, and it still hasn’t sunk in that I’m district champion.”

For Walker, there are people in his life who inspire and push him.

“My sisters run, but I wouldn’t call them professional,” Walker said. “My coaches are Coach Olford and Coach Zuniga who push me to do my best.”

Walker’s coaches are proud of the senior varsity runner.

“He has been with us for four years, and has become a great leader for our program,” Zuniga said. “He never misses a practice and is always helpful to others; it was exciting to see him win.”
