Pride wins at Wylie marching invitational

Making history, the Wylie East band, The Pride of the East, competed with their 2014 show Leaving Home at the annual Wylie Marching Invitational.

After tripping over props and competing against 22 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A bands, The Pride came in third place over all in the preliminary round.

“After we sat down and started watching amazing bands you noticed faces started to drop and you heard voices get softer and softer, but when we placed third all of us screamed so loudly and we were kind of in shock,” sophomore trombone player said.

Five hours later, after mingling with other bands and eating fajitas, The Pride of the East went out on the field again to perform for the judges one last time.

Pride advanced from third place to fifth place, and made history by beating Sherman.

In the history of Pride of the East, the band has never beaten Sherman High School and they ended up beating them twice in one day.

After arriving back on campus the band held a small meeting.

“You guys are now considered as elite,” band director Glenn Lambert said. “People expect you all to give a good show.”

Pride is putting finishing touches on their show and preparing for the Duncanville contest Nov. 1.
