Free vaccinations offered in nurse’s office

Vaccinations will be offered to students who are “Texas Vaccine for Children” eligible Wednesday, May 21.

“‘Texas Vaccine for Children’ just means that those students with Medicaid, no insurance, insurance that doesn’t cover vaccines, or American Indian or Alaskan natives students can come get vaccines for free,” Nurse Jenny Knowles-Causey said.

For students unsure if they meet the requirements for a free vaccination go see Ms. Knowles-Causey in the nurse’s office.

Usually the shots cost the copay for the doctor’s office.

All of the vaccinations are required for college.

“It is good to get it done now because it’s at the school so you won’t have to take so much time out of your day,” Knowles-Causey said. “Also we automatically enter them into the school’s database so all of your vaccinations will be in one place so you don’t have to deal with paperwork.”

All students are required to keep record of their vaccinations and shots.

“The juniors and seniors will be receiving a sheet of paper with all of their current vaccinations also with a list of vaccinations they need,” Knowles-Causey said.

Some of the immunizations offered are not required but recommended.

“The meningococcal conjugate is required to attend college and is important to get,” Knowles-Causey said.

The meningococcal conjugate protects against a serious bacterial infection that could be fatal.

If interested in this opportunity to get these free shots stop by the nurse’s office for sign up information.
