Running to class. Panting through the halls. Arriving exhausted. Being delirious. These are all normal experiences throughout the day of a normal high school student. How about staying overnight at campus experiencing all of these locked in for 10 hours?

The first annual Student Council Winter Lock In took place from 9:30 p.m. Jan. 10 to 7:30 a.m. the following morning, with 46 members in attendance. Multiple hours of planning and organization went toward making the night the success it was.

“We started planning the Lock In two months prior to it happening. The most important details were the little ones that added up to ensure that everyone would have a great time throughout the night,” Student Council class member Abby Quillen said.

Members were encouraged to break out of their comfort zones and create new friendships throughout the night while participating in various events ranging from a school wide scavenger hunt to dodge ball.

“The Lock In gave our Student Council a chance to get to know each other better and to help us grow closer as a council,” Student Council Vice President Kelsey Morris (11) said.

The purpose of the Lock In, like all Student Council activities, was to promote the betterment of the school and include everyone, especially those who normally do not participate.

“Our main goal was to come together as a family, making new friends, accepting each other for who we are and having fun in the process,” Student Council President Kaylee Hicks (12) said.
