School bans consumption of outside drinks

You are standing in line for Race Track. You order a coffee to start your day off. You get to school, walk in the door and are told that you must throw your new drink away.

Due to students trying to sneak alcohol onto campus, no outside drinks are allowed on school grounds.

Responsibility is the issue for the banning of outside drinks, but not just because of alcohol consumption.

“Unfortunately there are many students who are not responsible enough to throw their drinks in the trash and pick up after themselves,” English teacher Megan Maxwell said.

Some students feel that it will help minimize distractions or disruptions during class.

“I think it is good not having to miss class to go get a drink, plus some teachers won’t let you leave if you get thirsty,” freshman Roni Villa-Blaise said.

For the most part, students are compliant with the new rule.

“I don’t agree with the new rule, but I understand the concern that the school has,” Villa-Blaise said.

The staff wants what is best for the school.

“I feel that the classroom will be cleaner, and there will not be as many disruptions in class,” Maxwell said.
