Racers start your electric engines!

The solar car team is getting even closer to the race to California taking place in late July. “We’re in the final stages of design and trials,” Supervisor Mr. Tony Roseberry said.

The next few months are going to be crunch time for the team of nine members to completely finish the car, but they are confident in their abilities.

“It’s a lot of work, but the race will be worth it,” senior Adam Bowling said.

The team ran the car during third period on Valentine’s Day.

“We got it started and running, but we found that we needed to tweak the design more,” senior Brody Madler said.

One of their latest accomplishments is getting the braking system and direct drive put in.

“The direct drive helps the car run better without a transmission which causes less torque for the car,” senior Kyler Lay said.

Although the team is in the trial and error stage, they are working diligently on getting it finished and have come a long way from last year.

“I remember when we barely had the frame put together and now we have a working car; it’s awesome,” senior Dalton Rains said.

Each member has their own specialty in this project which has helped them expand on what they learn.

“The solar car has given me and opportunity to weld and work with the electric components,” senior Justin Krahn said.
