As the Mad Hatter would say, “Happy unbirthday” to Kimberly Miller. As it turns out, she will have the support of her school through a late birthday party thrown by Maddie Schweng and Karsen Knight, a Powderpuff basketball game hosted by the SOAK Club, a jeans day held by the FFA, the varsity football team shaving their heads and the donation contest from Mr. Abrams, not to mention all of the events that are still in the planning stages. The week before Christmas break was definitely one large cooperation to support Kimberly Miller.

Kim is a junior and discovered she had Ovarian Cancer just this year. Her friends and family were just as shocked as she was.

I stayed in a shock for a couple days but I told myself I have to accept it and it’s not going to get me down. I have to fight and I will.

“It was the last thing on my mind to think would happen to me,” junior Kimberly Miller said. “I stayed in a shock for a couple days but I told myself I have to accept it and it’s not going to get me down. I have to fight and I will.”

Maddie Schweng and Brittanie Gore are even planning to throw a late birthday party for Kim. Karsen Knight contributed by having everyone sign a large birthday card for Kim as well.

“We just thought it would be a good idea, because she was in the hospital on her actual birthday,” Maddie Schweng said.

Everyone’s lives are changing because of this one person. Kim has affected every student in the school, even the people she doesn’t know.

“The kids make better choices. She came in and talked to us before her last surgery. She said ‘Don’t take life for granted,’ and I really think that gave them a new perspective on life,” Kim’s former teacher, Teresa Dudley said.

As long as the students have a say, no Raider will stand alone. The entire junior class and their parents stood to applaud Kimberly’s appearance at the Class Ring Ceremony on Dec. 9.

“If anyone is strong enough to make it through this, it would be Kim. She will fight her hardest and we will stand by her side the whole way,” junior Karsen Knight said.

There are even more events that are being planned to raise money to help with medical costs.

“We’re planning to have a dodge ball tournament and to sell bracelets,” junior Brittanie Gore said.

Kimberly has an entire town standing behind her and everyone is working to make life easier for her.

“It amazes me how much our community has come together to support me,” Miller said.
